The ten best Lisa Loeb songs

I've been a fan of Lisa Loeb since her first single, "Stay," dominated MTV and radio. She made history with that song, as she was the first (and only) artist to ever have a song reach #1 before she even had a record contract. Not to mention that she made girls with glasses hot again. Unfortunately, Lisa Loeb has not been able to recreate that success with any of her subsequent singles. Fortunately, she's still pretty damn hot. Her slide into obscurity began with her very next single from her debut album Tails, "Taffy." The song didn't even register on the charts. Although her third single, "Do You Sleep," did put her back on the charts at #18. But it was short lived as her next single, "Waiting for Wednesday," only got to #83 on the US Hot 100 Singles chart and #36 on the US Adult Top 40 chart. Her next album, Firecracker, acheived some succes with the singles "I Do" and "Let's Forget About It." "I Do" got to #3 on the US Adult Top 40 chart. So close, Lisa... so very close. She dropped way below the radar with her release of Cake and Pie from 2002. The album barely made it's way onto the charts at #199. She left her record label shortly after the release, citing reasons such as lack of promotion. If you've never heard of her Cake and Pie album, then I guess she was probably right. She reworked the album, cut a few new tracks, took a few of the older ones off, and retitled the album Hello Lisa, which was released under a different label later in 2002, just short of 9 months after Cake and Pie. The album did not even make it onto the charts. In 2003 Lisa worked on a slightly different project, the Spiderman animated series that aired on MTV for one season. She lended her voice talents to the role of Mary Jane for the series. She also released a children's album that year with Elizabeth Mitchell called Catch The Moon. In 2004 Lisa Loeb and her long time boyfriend, Dweezil Zappa, had their very own short-lived show on the Food Network, "Dweezil and Lisa." The premise of the show was that Lisa and Dweezil would go to various places in the US and sample local food and music. Lisa released her fourth album, The Way It Really Is, in 2004. Once again, it didn't even register on the charts. In 2005 Lisa starred in her very own reality television series on E! called "#1 Single." The show was an 8-part series that featured Lisa as she re-entered the dating scene. The show coincided with the release of her best of album, The Very Best of Lisa Loeb. If you weren't a big fan of Lisa's, you may not have heard a single song from her last three albums. Shame on you if that's the case. But I can't blame the ignorant. I blame radio and all it's evils. So even though Lisa hasn't had a #1 single in over a decade, she still makes good music. And here is your chance to hear the ten best Lisa Loeb songs as I see them.
